One week after the screening of new works from the LI-MA collection at The Grey Space in the Middle, we'll be hosting BYOF (Bring Your Own File) sessions. Inspired by the "Bring Your Own Beamer" concept created by artist Rafaël Rozendaal, BYOF invites participants to present all types of software-based art in an open, inclusive format.

Using the resources and network at our disposal, our goal is to support and elevate the work of emerging artists, particularly those engaged in underrepresented art practices and themes. LI-MA received many exciting submissions, and we look forward to showcasing the selected works.

On 4 and 5 October, a public presentation programme will take place, during which audiences can experience exciting media art from fresh new artists that deal with themes such as media and technology criticism, gender and identity, sustainability, and other emerging issues. And, later, selected artists will participate in a private feedback session with experts, partners, and fellow artists, where they’ll receive valuable guidance and insights on their work.

Saskia Burggraaf - Fuck Chronology as Truth Telling (2024, 14’)

Fuck Chronology as Truth Telling is a video collage challenging the concept of linear time, questioning its capitalist and patriarchal underpinnings. Using video, VR, and text, Burggraaf explores how fragmented narratives can reflect personal and collective experiences of time. The work is a call to reconsider non-linear, queer ideas of temporality, rejecting rigid societal structures.

Saskia Burggraaf (she/they) is a multidisciplinary artist and designer from Haarlem, Netherlands. Her work spans video, performance, sculpture, and installation, investigating human behavior, power dynamics, non-linear time, and patriarchal structures. A graduate of the Dutch Art Institute (2020), she is also active as a designer and activist at Nieuwe Vide Art Space in Haarlem. Burggraaf explores alternative, non-hierarchical ways of thinking and organising.

Mathilde van der Burght - The Mythmaking Machine (2024, 8’04”)

The Mythmaking Machine dissects the visual language of QAnon conspiracies through a desktop documentary format. Using a collage of fragmented imagery, van der Burght critiques the spread of misinformation by mimicking the chaotic screens of conspiracy theorists.

Mathilde van der Burght (1999) is an Amsterdam-based artist and researcher focused on digital subcultures and online extremism. She holds a bachelor’s in Transformation Design from the Willem de Kooning Academy and is currently pursuing a master's in New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam.

Geo Barcan - Surge of Transference (2023, 14’56”)

Surge of Transference examines the rise of the internet in a small Romanian town, tracing its transformation from peer-to-peer networks to late capitalism. Blending documentary and sci-fi, the video reflects on the tension between digital progress and post-industrial realities.

Geo Barcan is a Romanian artist based in Rotterdam, working with video, text, and installation to explore ideological and cultural narratives. Her recent works focus on the intersection of nature and technology, using hybrid forms like docu-fiction and video essays.

The works are on display during Zend Festival at The Grey Space In The Middle:
