Medium specificity: from the electromagnetic space to the Internet
Video camera, digital camera, computer, laptop: the apparatus is an important element of media art. Artists not only use their devices to capture the world around them, they also research the medium itself. Every technical device has its own technical specificities, its look and feel, its technical possibilities, its image errors. The artist Jan Robert Leegte will focus on medium specific artistic practices by relating the early pioneers of (digital) video art with the practice of (Post-) Internet artists. Video works from the seventies will be shown together with YouTube videos and web-based work.
