Distribution partner CineSonic audio visual concerts

Established in 2007, CineSonic is a project of Stichting Film en Media Festival Amsterdam that aims at combining silent feature films, experimental shorts and video-art compilations with cutting edge music producers. CineSonic presents a regular program of live screenings at Goethe Institute Amsterdam and has been organising special events hosted by some of the most important festivals in The Netherlands and abroad (Lowlands, 5 Days Off, Rocket Cinema, TIFF Trasylvania International Film Festival..) and venues in Amsterdam and Rotterdam (EYE Film Institute, Paradiso, Melkweg, Rabozaal, Lantaren Venster, Worm..). Since 2012 CineSonic collaborates with LIMA and with the Paris based art film label Lowave at a new series of events dedicated to live video art presentations.

The concept behind CineSonic is to offer musicians and sound artists complete freedom to interact with feature films of videos that were created with the presence of a leading musical element. Each selected artist is given the opportunity to create a new sonic dimension for a film or a selection of videos. Through these creative encounters new dynamics between live music performances and visual media are explored and revealed. The mix of film screening and live music adds a whole new dimension to the familiar practices of ‘watching a film/video’ and ‘listening to music’, creating an intriguing experience during which the audience can rediscover a number of everlasting film classics, discover the work of cutting edge musicians and/or experience visual arts and live music in new inspiring ways.
