LI-MA Takes New Media Art Nationwide and Scouts New Talent

LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen goes nationwide

September 2024 marks the start of LI-MA's nationwide tour, presenting the latest additions to our innovative media art collection in multiple cities. LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen and LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen - Bring Your Own File will foster a symbiosis between artists and audiences and cultivate accessible, inclusive, and sustainable local communities around media art, of the present and of the future.

The forthcoming LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen and LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen - Bring Your Own File aims to broaden the reach of media art and build lasting connections between creators, cultural organisations, and various audience segments. This is the first time LI-MA is showing its New Art on Screen programme in several cities in the Netherlands. The centre of expertise for media art intends to use this formula more often in the future.

We are excited to take LI-MA Presents: New art on Screen on the road. From September 2024 to March 2025, in partnership with cultural organisations nationwide, LI-MA will showcase new works from its collection in cities including Amsterdam, The Hague, Heerlen, Arnhem, and Leeuwarden.

New Art on Screen: Nurturing Collaboration and Inclusivity

By working with local institutions and embracing regional artists and themes, we aim to diversify and democratise the media art field. Our partners include The Grey Space in the Middle (The Hague), CBK Zuidoost (Amsterdam), Greylight Projects (Heerlen), 171project.space (Arnhem), and Media Art Friesland (Leeuwarden).

During LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen, LI-MA and its partners will present 4-5 new works by talented artists from our collection, both in physical locations and online. These works will address contemporary issues such as media and technology criticism, gender and identity, and sustainability, highlighting the relevance and urgency of media art today. The screenings will take place in the presence of the artists and they will participate in a Q&A afterwards.

Bring Your Own File: A Platform for Emerging Artists

As part of LI-MA Presents, we invite young artists to showcase their work. Approximately 10 local artists will have the opportunity to present their creations, connect with wider audiences, partner organisations, and industry professionals. This platform provides talented artists a stage to reach broader audiences and be considered for inclusion in the LI-MA collection. With Bring Your Own File, we build on the concept of Bring Your Own Beamer (the inclusive ‘open source exhibition concept’ conceived by artist Rafaël Rozendaal) by inviting participants to showcase all types of software-based art.

There will be feedback sessions and workshops for Bring Your Own File participants, where they will receive expert feedback and delve into different aspects of media art, such as history, distribution and technical elements. Discussions will be driven by questions from participants.

LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen and LI-MA Presents: New Art on Screen - Bring Your Own File are presented in partnership with CBK Zuidoost, Greylight Projects, Media Art Friesland, 171 project.space, and The Grey Space in the Middle.
